Nets impress in Game 1
Brooklyn made a statement in Game 1 of the series with a 111-102 win over the 76ers on Saturday as a 6.5-point underdog. The Nets are now 43-40 on the season, 20-22 on the road, 46-37 against the spread and 42-41 with the under.
The Nets didn’t really have an impressive shooting effort on Saturday, as they were just 38-of-88 from the field. However, they were 11-of-26 from the arc. D’Angelo Russell continued to lead the Nets, as he put up 26 points with four assists. The Brooklyn bench was key, as Caris LeVert scored 23 points while Spencer Dinwiddie had 18 and Ed Davis chipped in with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Davis is questionable for the game tonight due to an ankle injury he suffered on Saturday.
76ers continue to struggle
Philadelphia trailed pretty much the entire time in Game 1 of the series. They have now lost and failed to cover in five of their last seven games coming into today. Philly is 51-32 on the season, 31-11 at home, 38-45 against the spread and 43-40 with the over.
The 76ers weren’t sure if they would have Joel Embiid in Game 1, but he did play and it didn’t seem to matter. He is listed as questionable right now for Game 2 due to his knee injury. Embiid had 22 points with 15 rebounds and five blocks in Game 1, but the 76ers couldn’t shoot from the arc. They were just 3-of-25 as a team in the loss. Embiid alone was 0 for 5. Jimmy Butler did play well, posting 36 points with nine rebounds, but Ben Simmons struggled to just nine points with seven rebounds.
NBA Betting Trends
Brooklyn
The Nets are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight road games and 13-3 ATS in their last 16 road games against a team with a winning home record.
Philadelphia
The 76ers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight division games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 conference games.
Prediction:
It would be hard to imagine Philadelphia not coming back stronger after an embarrassing loss in Game 1. The 76ers should definitely shoot better today. However, the spread is awfully big for a game against a team that has given them trouble this season. The Nets aren’t lacking in confidence and their bench is healthy and eager to prove themselves. Brooklyn is going to come out full force and not rest on the Game-1 victory. While Philadelphia may be able to win this game, Embiid isn’t 100 percent and Philly isn’t playing at a high level. I think this game should be close and Brooklyn can cover.
