Hornets on a win streak
Charlotte is riding a four-game win streak right now following a 125-116 OT victory over the Spurs at home on Tuesday. The Hornets have covered the spread in all four games as well. Charlotte is 1.5 games out of the eighth seed in the East with 8 games remaining. The Hornets are 35-39 on the season, 11-24 on the road, 35-38-1 against the spread and 41-32-1 with the over.
The Hornets are putting up 110.9 points per game on offense this season while shooting 44.7 percent as a team. Defensively, Charlotte is giving up 111.7 points per game while opponents shoot 46.7 percent against them. Tony Parker, Nicolas Batum and Jeremy Lamb are all dealing with injury/illness, but are listed as probable to play tonight. Kemba Walker is leading the team with 25.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game while Jeremy Lamb is adding 15.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest.
Lakers on a cover streak
Los Angeles is coming off a 115-100 loss at Utah on Wednesday, but the Lakers covered the spread for a third straight game in the loss. Los Angeles is now 33-42 on the season, 20-17 at home, 30-43-2 against the spread and 46-28-1 with the under.
The Lakers are putting up 111.7 points per game while shooting 47.1 percent as a team. Defensively, Los Angeles is giving up 113.8 points per game while opponents shoot 45.2 percent from the floor. Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh Hart are all sidelined for the rest of the season while Tyson Chandler and Reggie Bullock are questionable to play tonight. LeBron James is leading the team with 27.4 points, 8.6 rebound sand 8.2 assists per game while Kyle Kuzma is adding 18.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Charlotte
The Hornets are 19-6-1 against the spread in their last 26 Friday games, but just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 against Pacific Division opponents.
Los Angeles
The Lakers are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss.
Prediction:
Maybe I’m reading too much into the matchup, but LeBron James facing Michael Jordan’s team makes me think LeBron will turn up the intensity tonight. The Lakers haven’t been reliable, but it is still a home game against a sub-.500 team that has been a mess on the road. While Charlotte is on a win streak, three of the four have been at home. I can’t trust the Hornets as a road favorite out West against a LeBron-led team.
NBA Prediction: Los Angeles Lakers +2.5
