Grizzlies to barely hang on vs. Wolves?
Undermanned Memphis’ march back to the Western Conference playoffs has turned into one of the great stories of the hoops campaign. After four losses in six games, however, could Beale Street be panicking soon?
Oddmakers at online sports book Bovada.lv certainly approach this evening’s battle at FedEx Forum in an interesting manner. The Grizzlies currently sit as 3.5-point home underdogs against the 21-46 Timberwolves.
In fairness, Memphis (39-28, second in the Southwest Division) faces the specter of dropping three straight for the first time since early November. Monday’s 130-81 trouncing at Houston didn’t exactly inspire a wave of confidence, either. Dave Joerger’s team surrendered its most points of 2015-16 while shooting 29.7 percent.
Regression was inevitable, of course. Injuries to high-impact performers such as Marc Gasol, Mike Conley, Zach Randolph and Vince Carter will eventually threaten to cripple any group. Throw in nagging woes experienced by Lance Stephenson and Chris Anderson, too, and it’s amazing the Griz have yet to raid their D-League affiliate in Iowa.

Minnesota’s Andrew Wiggins feels no pangs of sorrow for the opposition. If anything, the sophomore sensation can’t contain his excitement for tonight’s 8 p.m. ET tip. Wiggins boasts a shooting percentage of 58.8 vs. Memphis this year, averaging 21.3 points in the series.
Aside from the aforementioned catalyst’s penchant for torching the Grizzlies, though, there’s little reason to expect either squad to surpass the century mark. Go low, with confidence.
