Hawks covering the spread
Atlanta is coming off a 123-118 win at Chicago yesterday. The Hawks have won three of their last five games while going 5-1 against the spread in their last six. Atlanta is now 22-42 on the season, 11-23 on the road, 30-34 against the spread and 36-28 with the over.
The Hawks are the league’s worst defense, giving up 119 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 47.5 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from the arc. Offensively, Atlanta is putting up 112.2 points per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the field. Both Taurean Prince and John Collins are questionable to play tonight. Collins has been averaging 19.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to lead the team while Trae Young is adding 18.3 points and 7.8 assists per contest.
Heat on cover streak
Miami is coming off a 117-88 win at home over Brooklyn Nets. The Heat have covered the spread in three straight games, winning two of the last three. Miami is 28-34 overall, 13-18 at home, 33-29 against the spread and 32-30 with the over.
The Heat are one of the better defensive teams in the league, allowing just 106.5 points per game while holding opponents to 44.6 percent shooting. Offensively, Miami is putting up 105.9 points per game while shooting 45 percent from the field. James Johnson, Hassan Whiteside and Goran Dragic are all questionable to play tonight due to injuries. Josh Richardson is leading the team with 17.4 points per game.
NBA Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Hawks have covered the spread in four straight road games, but just 2-8 ATS in their last 10 on no rest.
Miami
The Heat are just 2-6 against the spread in their last eight home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a losing road record.
Prediction:
The Heat are a tough team to figure out. Miami seems to play better against good teams and really poor against the bad ones. They lost by 23 at home to the Pistons and 3 at home to the Suns. During this cover streak, it has been against the likes of the Warriors, Rockets and Nets. I will take my chances on the Hawks covering tonight even though they played on Sunday.
NBA Prediction: Atlanta Hawks +9
