Grizzlies a safe bet vs. slumping Jazz?
The Jazz have been a horrible bet lately while the Grizzlies are rolling for bettors. Will Memphis cover as a slight home favorite tonight over Utah when the two teams meet at 8:05PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetDSI, the Grizzlies are a 1.5-point home favorite over the Jazz while the over/under is sitting at 193 points. The side hasn’t experienced any movement in this game but our NBA Odds page shows that the total has been bet down a full point from the opening number of 194.
The vast majority of betting tickets for tonight’s game are on the Grizzlies to cover
With Marc Gasol out for the season with a foot injury, Mike Conley continues to play a bigger role in the offense and has responded well. He’s averaging 16.7 points and 7.2 assists over his past six games and scored 24 points on 9-of-12 shooting for Memphis in a win over Sacramento on Wednesday. The Grizzlies need Tony Allen (knee) back with P.J. Hairston struggling through some defensive lapses, but Matt Barnes has played well in his last five games and Mario Chalmers is coming off a strong performance as well.
Granted, the Kings’ defense is lousy so taking too much from the Grizzlies’ win on Wednesday is unproductive. But Shelvin Mack struggled on that side of the court on Wednesday versus Toronto and Rudy Gobert got himself into foul trouble in that game as well. The Jazz aren’t receiving nearly enough production out of Trevor Booker and 2013 lottery pick Trey Burke only played 13 minutes in the game.
In other words, things are defnitiely off for the Jazz, who are 0-5 against the spread in their last five road games and 0-6 ATS overall. They’re also a horrendous 1-10 against the number in their last 11 road games versus a team with a winning home record. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and 14-4 ATS in their last 18 games at home.
