Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook BetNow.eu, the Lakers are 7-point favorites to beat the Suns. The total, meanwhile, sits at 235 points and as of this writing, 62% of the public betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Lakers to cover the point spread.
Los Angeles Lakers Fantasy Spin
LeBron James said if teams want to pick on him on defense to “come on with it and we’ll see what happens.” “I mean, every team has the right if they want to single me out defensively. Come on with it,” James said. “So if [teams are] switching out on me with a guard and me having to try to get a stop… I just try to make it tough on them.” While LBJ isn’t quite the same defender he used to be, he still ranks No. 3 overall amongst small forwards in terms of real plus/minus this season, and he did an excellent job of shutting down Jrue Holiday towards the closing minutes of Wednesday’s win in New Orleans.
Phoenix Suns Fantasy Spin
Devin Booker scored 26 points during a 130-116 loss to the Pelicans on Friday, adding six rebounds, seven assists, one steal, six turnovers and one 3-pointer. He had one of his best dunks of the year when he threw one down on Anthony Davis (video in link below). He was called questionable earlier today, but Booker’s toe injury didn’t seem to limit him too much. He did struggled with his shot on a 6-of-17 shooting line, which isn’t too unusual for the green-lit Booker. The Suns do play on Saturday for a back-to-back set, so Booker’s fantasy owners will want to makes sure Book is good to go.
NBA Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Lakers are just 2-5 at the betting window in their last seven games after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
Phoenix
The Suns are winless against the spread in their last five games when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.
Prediction
The Suns are horrendous, but the Lakers are overvalued at this line. LeBron and Co. have lost 11 of their last 16 games and collapsed Friday night at home versus the Bucks despite holding leads at halftime and for most of the third quarter. The Suns have dropped 18 of their last 19 games but are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games when playing the second contest of a back-to-back. The Lakers, meanwhile, are 2-5 at the betting window in their last seven games and are winless at 0-4 in their last four contests away from Staples Center.
