Pistons vs. Hornets Prediction
Are the Charlotte Hornets worth a play Sunday afternoon when they host the Detroit Pistons at 1:00 p.m. ET?
There has been line movement on both the spread and the total for this game. Let's start with the side. The Hornets opened as 4-point favorites before the line was bet up to 4.5. That said, some books have moved Charlotte back down to -4. As for the total, the number hit the board at 212.5 but was bet up a full two points to 214.5.
As of this writing, 52% of betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Hornets to cover the spread. That said, 54% of the money wagered online is on the Pistons. As for the total, the majority of the betting tickets (58%) are on the under.
KEY INJURY TO WATCH
The Hornets are healthy but the Pistons will once again be without guard Reggie Jackson, who has been out with an ankle injury since December.
Both of these teams are 6-4 over their last 10 games but neither has been covering spreads. Detroit is just 2-8 against the number in its last 10, while Charlotte is 4-6 at the betting window over its last 10. To me, the value is still in the home team, which is 8-3 against the spread in the last 11 meetings between these two teams. The favorite is also 9-3 against the number in the last 12 meetings while the Pistons are just 1-4 ATS in their last five trips to Charlotte.
The Pistons are also 8-21 against the spread in their last 29 games overall, are 7-20-1 against the number in their last 28 conference matchups, and are 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous game.
