Grizzlies continue road trip
Memphis comes out of the All-Star Break on a tour of California, suffering losses at Sacramento and the L.A. Lakers over the weekend. The Grizzlies are 28-28 overall, 12-15 on the road, 30-25-1 against the spread and 28-28 with the over/under total.
The Grizzlies are giving up 114.8 points per game on defense this season while allowing opponents to shoot 45.4 percent against them. Offensively, Memphis puts up a respectable 113.1 points per game while shooting 47.3 percent from the field. The Grizz have lost Jaren Jackson Jr. for multiple weeks with a knee injury. He averages 16.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season. Ja Morant is leading the team with 17.6 points and 6.9 assists per contest.
Clippers on a slide
Los Angeles has dropped three straight following a 112-103 loss at home to the Kings on Saturday. They are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven overall. The Clippers come into this game 37-19 overall, 22-6 at home, 29-27 against the spread and 29-26-1 with the under.
The Clippers are a solid offensive team, averaging 115.7 points per game while shooting just 46.1 percent from the field. Defensively, Los Angeles is allowing 110.3 points per game while opponents shoot 43.7 percent from the floor. Los Angeles is already without defensive leader Patrick Beverley for tonight’s game due to a groin injury and Paul George is questionable due to his hamstring injury. George averages 21.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per game when he plays. Kawhi Leonard is leading the team with 27.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.3 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Memphis
The Grizzlies are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine games following a loss and 6-0 ATS in their last six games following a loss of more than 10 points.
Los Angeles
The Clippers are 24-9 against the spread in their last 33 games following a loss, but just 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.
Prediction:
The road team has won both meetings this season, while the Grizzlies have covered the spread in both contests. That includes an impressive 140-114 win at Los Angeles on Jan. 4. Injuries are going to play a big part in this game. Keep an eye on George’s status, and you always have to be weary of Kawhi Leonard being rested. The Clippers haven’t looked great since George went down, so getting him back could provide a real boost. The Grizzlies play with a chip on their shoulder with young leadership, but not having Jackson on the floor opens up some space for the Clippers to attack. Jackson can alter a lot of shots and make things challenging defensively. He also can shoot from the arc to spread out opposing defenses. I think the Grizz being out West for nearly a week now is going to make this game a difficult one. Los Angeles isn’t a team I’d expect to remain in a funk for long. I like them to bounce back tonight, especially if George returns.
NBA Prediction: Los Angeles Clippers -9.5
