Spurs end skid
The San Antonio Spurs ended a four-game losing streak just before the All-Star Break, beating the Grizzlies on the road, 108-107. However, San Antonio has failed to cover in eight straight games. The Spurs are 33-26 on the season, 11-19 on the road, 31-27-1 against the spread and 36-22-1 with the over.
The Spurs are averaging 112.3 points per game on offense this season while posting the league’s top 3-point shooting percentage of 40.9. Defensively, the Spurs are giving up 111.4 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 47 percent. DeMar DeRozan is averaging 21.4 points, 6.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game for his new team while LaMarcus Aldridge is adding 21 points and 9 rebounds per game.
Raptors winning, not covering
Toronto went into the break on an impressive six-game winning streak, but the Raptors failed to cover in their last three games. Toronto is now 43-16 on the season, 24-5 at home, 26-33 against the spread and 32-27 with the over.
The Raptors are sixth in the NBA in offense this season, averaging 114.3 points per game. The defense is giving up 108.7 points per contest while holding opponents to 45.3 percent shooting. Kawhi Leonard has been dealing with a knee injury, but is expected to play tonight against his former team. Leonard is averaging 27 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this season while Pascal Siakam is adding 16.1 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
NBA Betting Trends
San Antonio
The Spurs have covered the spread in seven of their last nine against Eastern Conference teams, but are 0-5 ATS in their last five road games.
Toronto
The Raptors are 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 Friday games and 0-6 ATS in their last six when on 3 days of rest or more.
Prediction:
Neither team has been doing well at the betting window lately, but I like the Spurs to snap out of their funk today. DeRozan will have motivation to really step up tonight, returning to his former home with what should be a positive welcome. Leonard didn’t get the same response when these two met in San Antonio and the Spurs rolled the Raptors by 18. Toronto has been a hard team to trust with these big spreads as well and San Antonio isn’t a bad team. They just had a bad stretch before the break.
NBA Prediction: San Antonio Spurs +7.5
