Team LeBron
This is the second year that the NBA has opted for the Player Draft as opposed to East vs. West. LeBron drafted his own team and it includes himself, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Kyrie Irving as the starting lineup. His bench players are Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, Damian Lillard, Ben Simmons, LaMarcus Aldridge, Karl-Anthony Towns, Bradley Beal and Dwyane Wade. The team will be coached by Michael Malone of the Denver Nuggets.
Team Giannis
The other team is captained by Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo. His starting lineup includes himself, Joel Embiid, Paul George, Stephen Curry and Kemba Walker. Their bench includes Khris Middleton, Nikola Jokic, Russell Westbrook, Blake Griffin, D’Angelo Russell, Nikola Vucevic, Kyle Lowry and Dirk Nowitzki. The team will be coached by Mike Budenholzer of the Milwaukee Bucks.
Prediction:
Last year’s new for mat saw a much lower-scoring game, as Team LeBron beat Team Steph, 148-145. The previous years had seen totals over 350 points. This new format seems to bring a little more competitiveness between the players. Last year’s game was also very close and came down to the final few possessions. I would expect this game to remain close. Both teams have a lot of scoring and the team that is trailing will likely turn up the heat on defense, which should allow for a scoring surge. I will take the underdog getting nearly six points. I like the under as well, as the increase in competitiveness should be seen on defense, which will allow for fewer showcase dunks.
NBA All-Star Game Prediction: Team Giannis +5.5 and Under 312
