Lakers struggling
Los Angeles has lost four of its last five games, including three of four during a homestand this past 10 days. The Lakers are 26-25 overall, 10-13 on the road, 21-28-2 against the spread and 32-18-1 with the under.
The Lakers have been trending down on offense and defense since the injury to LeBron James on Christmas Day. They now average 112.1 points per game on offense while allowing 111.9 points per game on defense. James could return this weekend but is out tonight. Kyle Kuzma is questionable to play tonight due to a hip injury. James averaged 27.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game prior to his injury. Kuzma averages 19.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game for the team.
Clippers stumble against Hawks
Los Angeles is coming off a 123-118 loss at home to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night, snapping a three-game win streak. The Clippers are 28-23 on the season, 15-11 at home, 28-23 against the spread and 26-24-1 with the over.
The Clippers are strong on offense this season, averaging 114.1 points per game while shooting 38.2 percent from the arc. Defensively, Los Angeles is giving up 113.5 points per game, but limiting opponents to 45.5 percent shooting. Danilo Gallinari continues to sit out with his back injury while Avery Bradley is questionable to play tonight due to a knee injury. Tobias Harris is leading the team with 21.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while Lou Williams is adding 18.7 points and 5.2 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
L.A. Lakers
The Lakers are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 division games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games.
L.A. Clippers
The Clippers are 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games, but 21-6 ATS in their last 27 division contests.
Prediction:
The Clippers earned a 118-107 win over the Lakers back on Dec. 28. The Clippers have also covered in four of their last five against the Lakers. Los Angeles has been one of the worst teams in the NBA since LeBron went down and Kuzma isn’t 100 percent either. The Lakers just don’t have the scoring to compete. When they do, their defense lets them down. They have allowed 120 points or more in five of their last six games. The Clippers can score, even without Gallinari. I like them to win and cover on their home floor.
NBA Prediction: Los Angeles Clippers -5.5
