Pelicans get Zion’s first win
The New Orleans Pelicans got their first win with Zion Williamson on Sunday in a 123-108 win at home over the Boston Celtics. It ended a brief 2-game losing streak for a team that has been playing quite well for a month. New Orleans is now 18-29 on the season, 9-14 on the road, 23-22-2 against the spread and 26-21 with the over.
New Orleans is putting up 114.5 points per game on offense while shooting 45.5 percent from the field as a team. Defensively, the Pelicans are giving up 117.4 points per game while opponents shoot 46.6 percent against them. Williamson is averaging 19.3 points and 8.0 rebounds per game through his first three games. Brandon Ingram is leading the team with 25.0 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists per contest, while Jrue Holiday is adding 19.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game.
Cavs end slide
Cleveland ended a 7-game losing streak last night with a 115-100 win at Detroit. The win also ended a three-game failed cover streak for the Cavs. The Cavs are now 13-34 on the season, 6-17 at home, 20-26-1 against the spread and 26-21 with the over.
The Cavs are mustering just 105.2 points per game on offense this year while shooting 45.2 percent from the field. Defensively, Cleveland is allowing 113.9 points per game while opponents shoot 48.8 percent against them. Collin Sexton is leading the Cavs this season, averaging 19.4 points per game. Kevin Love is adding 17.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
New Orleans
The Pelicans are 6-1-1 against the spread in their last eight road games and 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall.
Cleveland
The Cavs are 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight Tuesday games.
Prediction:
These two haven’t met this season but I do like New Orleans, even as a big favorite. Even before this year, the Pelicans have covered in five of their last six against Cleveland. The Pelicans really seemed to click on Sunday against the Celtics, finding the right way to mix with Zion. New Orleans has a very capable offense and their scoring should continue to surge against this bad Cleveland team that is coming off a road game last night. The Cavs just don’t have the scoring depth and athleticism to go toe-to-toe with New Orleans tonight.
NBA Prediction: New Orleans Pelicans -8
