Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook BetNow.eu, the Jazz are 15-point favorites to beat the Cavs. The total, meanwhile, sits at 214.5 points and as of this writing, 63% of the public betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Jazz to cover the point spread.
Cleveland Cavs Fantasy Spin
Tristan Thompson had eight rebounds but otherwise flopped on Wednesday, scoring four points on 2-of-6 shooting with one assist and zero defensive stats. Thompson remains one block behind Anderson Varejao and Brad Daugherty for the 7th-most blocks in franchise history. He failed to hit value for DFS owners who gambled on him tonight, and is a dubious source of season-long production on a team with a 9-35 record. It doesn’t help that Kevin Love (hand) is due back after the All-Star break, further clogging the frontcourt rotation.
Utah Jazz Fantasy Spin
Donovan Mitchell finished Wednesday’s road win vs. the Clippers with a team-high 28 points (10-of-22 FGs, 8-of-8 FTs), six assists, three steals and two rebounds. Fresh off being named Western Conference Player of the Week, it doesn’t seem like Mitchell is about to slow down. He averaged 31.5 points, 5.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds last week and his team needs him more than ever with a banged-up backcourt and a tenuous grasp on the postseason. He’s surging into early-round fantasy value over the past few weeks, which is where owners expected him to be all year as a top-50 draft pick.
NBA Betting Trends
Cleveland
The Cavaliers are 12-5 against the spread in their last 17 games after allowing more than 125 points in their previous game.
Utah
The Jazz have covered the spread in seven of their last nine games after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.
Prediction
The Cavaliers are 0-4 against the spread in their last four trips to Utah and are 0-6-1 against the number in their last seven games versus the Jazz overall. They’re also 2-6 at the betting window in their last eight games overall, are 1-5 against the spread in their last six games playing on one day of rest and have failed to cover in their last seven games on Friday. The Jazz meanwhile, are 12-4-1 against the spread in their last 17 games playing on one day of rest and if they can avoid suffering a letdown, they should roll over this brutal Cleveland squad.
Friday NBA Prediction: Utah Jazz -15
