Hawks in a skid
The Hawks have lost five of their last six following a 116-100 loss at Brooklyn on Wednesday night. They are just 2-3 against the spread in their last five as well. Atlanta is 12-29 on the season, 5-19 on the road, 18-23 against the spread and 21-20 with the over.
Atlanta is putting up 108.7 points per game on offense this season while shooting just 44.5 percent from the field. The Hawks are one of the worst defenses in the NBA, giving up 117.2 points per game. Both Taurean Prince and Kent Bazemore are out until mid-January with ankle injuries. John Collins is putting up 18.8 points and 10.6 rebounds per game this season to lead the team while rookie Trae Young is adding 15.5 points and 7.3 assists per contest.
76ers stumble at Washington
Philadelphia is coming off a 123-106 loss at Washington on Wednesday night to snap a four-game winning streak. Philly is now 27-15 on the season, 18-3 at home, 20-22 against the spread and 25-17 with the over.
The 76ers are doing very well on offense this season, averaging 114.6 points per game. The defense can’t quite say the same, as the 76ers are giving up 112.5 points per game. JJ Redick is listed as questionable for tonight’s game due to his lingering back injury. Joel Embiid is leading the team with 26.9 points, 13.5 rebounds and 1.88 blocks per game while Ben Simmons is adding 16.4 points, 9.1 rebounds and 8.0 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Hawks are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games playing on 1 day of rest, but 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against Atlantic Division opponents.
Philadelphia
The 76ers have covered the spread in their last four games following a loss and in seven of their last 10 home games.
Prediction:
Philly looked unmotivated and awful on Wednesday at Washington, but they have displayed that on the road at times. The 76ers have been pretty strong at home this year, posting a 12-9 record against the spread. While they have a big spread to cover, Atlanta is pretty short-handed on offense against a team that can put up a lot of points and should have a clear advantage in the frontcourt. I just don’t think the Hawks will have the shooting to stay within reach of the spread.
NBA Prediction: Philadelphia 76ers -12.5
