Nets returning to normalcy
The Nets were the hottest team in the NBA for a brief period a few weeks ago, but they have leveled out as of late, going 3-3 in their last six. That includes a 126-121 win over the Pelicans at home on Wednesday. Brooklyn is 18-21 on the season, 8-10 on the road, 20-19 against the spread and 20-19 with the over.
Brooklyn is putting up 111 points per game on offense this season while shooting 36.4 percent from the arc. Defensively, the Nets are allowing 112 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 47.1 percent. D’Angelo Russell is putting up 18.0 points and 6.3 assists per game to lead the team while Spencer Dinwiddie is putting up 17.5 points and 5.2 assists per contest.
Grizzlies on a losing streak
Memphis is coming off a 101-94 loss at home to Detroit on Wednesday for its third straight loss. The Grizzlies have also failed to cover in four straight and nine of their last 10. Memphis is now 18-19 on the season, 10-8 at home, 17-20 against the spread and 22-15 with the under.
The Grizzlies have one of the best defenses in the NBA, allowing just 102.3 points per game while holding opponents to 44.4 percent shooting. Offensively, Memphis is putting up 101.5 points per game while shooting just 34.7 percent from the arc. Guard Mike Conley is questionable for tonight’s game with a shoulder injury. Conley is averaging 19.9 points and 6.3 assists per game to lead the team while Marc Gasol is adding 16.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Brooklyn
The Nets are 10-4 against the spread in their last 14 games overall and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games following a win.
Memphis
The Grizzlies have failed to cover the spread in five straight home games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games playing on 1 day of rest.
Prediction:
Brooklyn and Memphis played an OT game back on Nov. 30, but I think both teams have trended in opposite paths since then. Memphis is really struggling, especially at the betting window. Brooklyn has been trending in the positive, though the Nets have leveled out a little bit. Still, I like the motivation of Brooklyn right now. Their players are guys with chips on their shoulders and I think they can score points. That’s not something Memphis can do. If Conley is unable to play, the Grizzlies really have no great threats in the backcourt.
