MIAMI (AP) – A person with knowledge of the decision says Homestead-Miami Speedway will not host an Indy Racing League event in 2011.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the IRL isn’t unveiling next year’s schedule until Friday.
It has long been expected that Las Vegas would take over for Homestead as site of the season finale. Some IRL drivers have wondered if that meant Homestead would return to its once-traditional slot of hosting the first race of the season.
Instead, it means after this year’s finale at Homestead, South Florida, will not host an IndyCar event until at least 2012.
Homestead is also the host of NASCAR’s championship weekend for all three of its series.
