LONG POND, Pa (AP) – Carl Edwards says he decided to stick with Roush Fenway Racing because the organization gives him the best chance to win championships.
Edwards was the hottest free agent in NASCAR before signing a multi-year contract extension Thursday. Speaking Friday at Pocono Raceway, Edwards says money was not a factor in his decision. Edwards says a conversation with team owner Jack Roush took all the pressure off his decision.
Roush told Edwards during negotiations to make the decision that was best for him.
Edwards, who acted as his own agent, says hearing that was a big relief and helped make a decision that had dragged into the summer. Edwards is the current Sprint Cup Series points leader and in position to compete for his first Cup championship.
