RICHMOND, Va. (AP) – Richard Petty returned to the race track on Friday for the first time since his wife died.
Lynda Petty died after a long battle with cancer on March 25.
Petty says he needed time on his own after losing his partner of 57 years. He says, ”I’m back in the saddle again now. I am just learning to live all over again.”
The seven-time Sprint Cup Series champion says he kept tabs on Richard Petty Motorsports through daily phone calls and watching some of it on television, but nothing beats being there in person. He also jumped back in with both feet, joining the team in Georgia on Monday, Tennessee on Tuesday, Wyoming on Wednesday and Richmond on Thursday.
He says the busier he stays, the better off he’ll be.
