Gordon takes the pole

Jeff Gordon improved his odds to win the 2009 Dickies 500 on Friday as Gordon won the pole for Sunday’s race.

Despite starting up front, Gordon is not the favorite to win, as Gordon’s teammate Jimmie Johnson still has that honor.

Johnson is a 4/1 favorite to win the race according to oddsmakers at the online sports book SPORTSBETTING.com. Other short odds to win are Gordon (5/1), Mark Martin (7/1), and Tony Stewart (8/1).

In 17 career starts at Texas Motor Speedway, Martin has five top-five finishes. Martin has finished outside the top 10 in two of his last three Sprint Cup races.
