Updated AMP 500 Odds

Current NASCAR Champion and points leader Jimmie Johnson will start in the pole position for Sunday’s AMP Energy 500 Sprint Cup Series race.

The 43-car field was actually set by owner’s points since weather cancelled qualifying for Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway. Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon – Johnson’s Hendrick Motorsports teammates – will start second and third.

Even though Johnson has the pole, he finds himself behind other drivers according to the odds. Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made Johnson 10/1 to win on Sunday, which gives him worse odds than Dale Earnhardt Jr. (6/1), Tony Stewart (6/1), Kyle Busch (7/1) and Jeff Gordon (8/1).

Earnhardt has such favorable odds to win because he has won five times at Talladega over the course of his career. Comparably, Johnson only has one at this track.

One reason Busch has better odds than Johnson is because he won the event in 2008 for his first ever victory and top 10 finish at Talladega. In nine races at Talladega, Busch has finished outside the top 20 in six, including a 25th place finish earlier this year.

Stewart has one career win at Talladega, with 12 top-10 finishes in 21 career outings at this track. He currently sits fourth in the point standings and is 182 points behind Johnson.

The AMP Energy 500 will take place Sunday, Nov. 1 from Talladega Superspeedway at Noon ET. For complete odds and track information on this year’s event, see below.
