TUMS Fast Relief 500 Free Picks
(The Spread) - NASCAR heads back to its roots this Sunday when the Chase for the Championship stops at Martinsville Speedway for the TUMS Fast Relief 500.
Short track racing was the norm in the early years of NASCAR and even though we won't see the high speeds we saw last week, exciting racing will be had thanks to lots of contact between the drivers.
This year’s chase has come down to four drivers but that could change this weekend. Both Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth have struggled here throughout their careers while Tony Stewart and Kevin Harvick have shown a real fondness for Martinsville. Throw Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin into the same mix as Stewart and Harvick, as they’ve both dominated here the last few years as well. We could very well see a new leader after Sunday’s race.
Jimmie Johnson 6/1
Johnson needs a win to have any shot at getting back in the hunt for another championship. In 10 races at this track, he’s only finished outside of the top-10 once and that was an 11th place finish this year. Before that, he had three straight wins and six top five finishes. Over his entire career at Martinsville, Johnson has ended up in victory lane six times and has an average finish of 5.6, which easily leads all drivers during that span. We think Johnson wins this race and makes things a little more interesting in the last few weeks.
Denny Hamlin 6/1
Back in April, Hamlin finished 12th at Martinsville after starting fifth and leading in 89 laps, which isn’t that bad. But when you look at the fact that he won the three previous races entering that event, it's the way his entire season has gone (which is to say, disappointing). This team and driver are just too good here to bet against and winning at his home track will be a great way to salvage the year.
Joey Logano 35/1
Martinsville is Logano's second best track on the circuit, which isn't surprising since his teammates have also run well here the last few years. His first start at Martinsville was a disappointment but in the four races since, he has an average finish of 8.3 and has completed all but one lap. Around this time last year was when he came on strong and in case you haven't noticed, he’s doing it again this year so a win wouldn't surprise us at all on Sunday.
