Martin Wins Again

The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series began its Chase for the Championship on Sunday, with points leader Mark Martin winning the Sylvania 300.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com, Martin had odds of 8/1 to win the race before the event, meaning a $100 bet on Martin to win will pay out $800.

Martin picked up his fifth win of the 2009 season Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The win gives Martin a 35-point cushion in the standings, ahead of Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin.

Hamlin finished second on Sunday after winning last weekend’s race. His finished moved him up two spots to second place.

Juan Pablo Montoya came in third on Sunday to jump seven spots in the standings to fourth place, 55 points behind Martin.

Johnson finished fourth to keep himself in second place while Tony Stewart finished 14th to drop to sixth in the standings, and Kasey Kahne finished 38th on Sunday to move to 12th in the standings, 161 points behind Martin.
