Good Sam RV Insurance 500 Predictions
(The Spread) - This week NASCAR returns to Pocono Raceway on Sunday for the Good Sam RV Insurance 500 and thanks to a recent race here, handicapping this event should be a little easier.
For the third race in a row, the series is racing on a flat track so you should expect some familiar faces to be strong once again on Sunday. When handicapping the Good Sam RV Insurance 500, we have to look at last week’s race since Indianapolis and Pocono are very similar. Pay close attention to those drivers who bring the same car they raced last week, especially if they had a good day at Indy.
Jeff Gordon 5/1
No one has been as dominant as Gordon on the flat tracks this year. He won at Pocono in June, won at Phoenix in February, finished 2nd in Indianapolis last week, and was running in the top-5 before running out of fuel in New Hampshire and finishing 11th. Gordon has really started to come on the last few weeks thanks to the flat tracks, which many drivers can’t seem to adapt to. Look for him to sweep Pocono this year.
Kurt Busch 10/1
In June, Busch started on the pole and finished second and he’s the only driver who ran the entire race inside the top-15. Starting up front at Pocono is critical and lately Busch has been dominating in qualifying, with top-5 starts in the last eight races and three poles. At Pocono, he's been hit or miss lately, with three top-10s and three finishes of 33rd or worse in his last six starts here. We look for another strong race again this week from Busch.
Juan Montoya 30/1
Montoya finished seventh at Pocono back in June and led 38 laps while running upfront all day. Montoya has finished in the top ten in four out of the last five Pocono races. Like Gordon, Montoya does well on flat tracks and has had strong runs the last few weeks but in typical fashion he just can't seem to finish as strong as he starts. This week we expect another strong showing and at this price he is worth a play at a track he has shown a fondness for.
