Montoya wins Pennsylvania 400 pole

LONG POND, PA (TheSpread)Juan Pablo Montoya won the pole for the Pennsylvania 400 on Saturday. He will now start up front for Sunday’s race – check out the updated odds from Long Pond.

Montoya won the Coors Light Pole Award for the 39th Annual Pennsylvania 400 with a lap of 51.124 seconds, 176.043 mph. This will be Montoya’s eighth pole in 202 Sprint Cup Series races and this is his first pole and second top-10 start in 2012. This is also his first pole in 12 races at Pocono Raceway.

Oddsmakers list Denny Hamlin as an 11/2 favorite while Jimmie Johnson is 6/1 and Kyle Busch is 8/1. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is 9/1, Kasey Kahne is 11/1 and Greg Biffle and Jeff Gordon are 12/1, respectively.

Hamlin is fifth in the point standings, 64 points out of first. He has two wins and nine top 5’s on the year. Hamlin has four wins at Pocono with eight top 5’s. His average finish at the track is 9.3, while his driver rating is 117.6, which ranks first in the series.

Johnson is fourth in the current point standings, 27 points out of first place. He is one of three drivers with three victories this year and he has a series-best 10 top 5’s. Johnson has two wins at Pocono. His average finish at this track is 8.8 while his driver rating is 106.7, which ranks second amongst current drivers.

Busch is 11th in the point standings. Busch has one win and six top 5’s on the year. Busch is winless at this track but has four top 5’s. His average finish at Pocono is 18.3, while his driver rating is just 86.5.
