Ragan wins Brickyard pole

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (TheSpread) – In a mild surprise David Ragan won the pole for the 2011 Brickyard 400 on Sunday, but the favorites remain largely the same.

According to oddsmakers at online sports book Bodog, Jimmie Johnson is still the favorite to win the race with 7/2 odds. Other short odds to win are Jeff Gordon (7/1), Juan Pablo Montoya (7/1), and Kurt Busch (7/1).

Johnson is second in the point standings, 7 behind Edwards. Johnson has one win and seven top 5’s on the year. Johnson has won this event three times in his career. However, his average finish is just 18.3 at Indy. Johnson will start third on Sunday.

Gordon is going to start eighth on Sunday. Gordon is seventh in the point standings. He has two wins and six top 5’s on the year. Gordon has four wins at the Brickyard and his average finish is 9.5 and his driver rating is 93.3, which ranks 10th in the series.

Montoya qualified seventh for Sunday’s race. He sits 17th in the point standings. He is winless on the year but has two top 5’s. Montoya has one top 5 at Indy and he has an average finish of 21.0 with a driver rating of 106.4, which is the second best in the series.

Kurt Busch will start fourth on Sunday. Busch is third in the point standings with one win and four top 5’s on the year. Busch has one top 5 at Indy with an average finish of 18.1 while his driver rating is just 71.0.
