2011 Brickyard 400 Predictions
(The Spread) - After a week off, NASCAR gets back to business Sunday when they visit historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400.
The Brickyard 400 is often considered one of the most prestigious races on the schedule. When handicapping Indianapolis, it’s important to remember that the only track similar to it is Pocono, so look for drivers who did well there when making your bets this week. A couple other keys will be handling and fuel mileage, so look for those crew chiefs that can adapt and aren't afraid to gamble a bit.
Stewart is a two-time winner at Indy and his 8.7 average finish at the track since the start of the 2001 season is the second-best among drivers. Stewart has finished in the top 10 in six of his last seven starts, including five top-5 finishes during that stretch. In two starts at the track as an owner/driver, Stewart has finished third and fifth. This is Stewart's home track and what better race than this one to get his first victory of the year.
Harvick has finished in the top-10 in seven of his last nine starts at Indianapolis and has finished outside the top 20 only once in 10 career starts at the track. He is one of four active drivers to average a top-10 finish at the Brickyard. Harvick has finished seventh or better in four of his last five starts at Indy, including a second-place effort last season. This week he will be using one of his better cars and should be upfront and in contention all day.
Kahne has finished in the top-15 in five of his seven Indianapolis starts, including four top-10 finishes. Both Red Bull cars have showed a lot of speed the last few weeks - especially Kahne, who has three straight top-15 finishes at Indy. A win in one of the biggest races of the year would be a huge boost as this team looks for investors.
