INDIANAPOLIS, IN (TheSpread) – Ryan Newman used a pole victory to get a race victory on Sunday, as he picked up the win at The Samuel Deeds 400.

Newman, an Indiana native, had an emotional time after winning the pole on Saturday with a new track record. During Sunday’s race, he always had a strong car and he managed to hold off Jimmie Johnson over the end laps to get the victory.

According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Newman had 50/1 odds to win this race, which means a wager of $100 on him to win will pay out an additional $5,000.

The win was the first of the year for Newman, and it puts him in contention to make the Chase for the Championship through the wild card spot. Only four drivers outside the top 10 have a victory this season.

Johnson finished second while Kasey Kahne was third. Johnson remains in first place in the point standings, 75 points ahead of Clint Bowyer for first. Bowyer placed 20th on Sunday. Newman moves to 16th in the point standings with his win.
