LONG POND, PA (The Spread) – After capturing the pole during Saturday’s qualifying, Joey Logano turned his excellent positioning into a victory at the 2012 Pocono 400.

Logano rode his No. 20 Toyota Home Depot car right into Victory Lane on Sunday and paid out 18/1 to bettors that backed him. Mark Martin (Toyota) finished second, Tony Stewart (Chevrolet) finished third, Jimmie Johnson (Chevrolet) finished fourth and Denny Hamlin (Toyota) wound up in fifth.

Entering Sundays race, Hamlin was a 9/2 favorite while Johnson had the next best odds at 6/1 and Kasey Kahne, Jeff Gordon and Kyle Bush were all 7/1 to win, respectively. Carl Edwards was 8/1, Martin was 10/1 and both Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart were 12/1, respectively

The victory didn’t come easy for Logano. With eight laps remaining, Martin passed his former protégé on the outside of Turn 1 coming off the final restart. But with four laps remaining, Martin went too low in Turn 3 and left a small window for Logano to pass him by. It wound up being Martin’s seventh runner-up finish at Pocono, which is a track in which he has never won at

With the victory, Logano moves up to 15th in points on the NASCAR Sprint Cup leaderboard. Matt Kenseth is still the overall points leader at 523 and Earnhardt Jr. is second with 513. Greg Biffle is third with 507 points and just behind him are Hamlin (504) and Johnson (493)
