Denny Hamlin won this race in 2010 after Kyle Busch took the pole in qualifying. Kashey Kahne has the qualifying record at 172.533 mph, 52.164 seconds (June 11, 2004), while Rusty Wallace has the track race record at 144.892 mph (July 21, 1996).

Hamlin has the top driver rating at Pocono at 119.2, while Jimmie Johnson is second at 105.9. Tony Stewart (102.4), Kurt Busch (101.8), Jeff Gordon (98.8), Carl Edwards (98.6), Mark Martin (96.4), Brian Vickers (93.9), Ryan Newman (93.9) and Kevin Harvick (91.4) round out the top 10 at this track. (Note: These numbers come from 12 races at Pocono from 2005 through 2010.)

Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog have made Hamlin a 9/2 favorite to win this year’s 5-Hour Energy 500, which takes place this Sunday at 1:00PM ET. Johnson is 6/1 to win, while Edwards is 7/1 and Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart are 10/1, respectively.

It’s no wonder why Hamlin is favored to win this year’s race. Not only did he win this event last season, but he has four wins, seven top-5 finishes and eight top-10s at Pocono over his career. He also has an average finish of 8.2, a series-best average running position of 8.9 and as previously mentioned, a series-best driver rating of 119.2.

Johnson has two wins at Pocono, six top-5 finishes and 12 top-10s. His average finish here is 9.6, his average running position of 10.4 is third-best and his driver rating of 105.9 is second-best.

Edwards has two wins, five top-5s and six top-10s at this track. His average finish here is 12.4, his average running position of 14.7 is 13th-best and his driver rating of 98.6 is sixth-best.
