Martin claims Richmond pole


RICHMOND, VA (TheSpread) – Qualifying for Saturday’s Richmond 400 took place on Friday and Mark Martin found himself in the pole position when it was all said and done.

According to oddsmakers, Martin now has 18/1 odds to win Saturday night’s race while Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin are the favorites to win with 5/1 odds. Carl Edwards has 6/1 odds to win.

Busch has struggled this season, as he sits 13th in the point standings, 94 points out of first place. Busch has just one top 5 on the season. At Richmond, Busch has three wins and 11 top 5’s in his career. His average finish at this track is 5.0 and his driver rating there is 114.8, which ranks second in the series. Busch will start fifth on Saturday.

Hamlin is fifth in the point standings. He is 23 points out of first. He has two wins on the season with three top 5’s. Hamlin has two wins at Richmond in his career with an average finish of 7.6 at the track. His driver rating at Richmond is 117.6, which is tops for any active driver. Hamlin qualified seventh for Saturday’s race.

Edwards qualified second on Friday. He is ninth in the point standings right now, trailing first by 61. Edwards has two top 5’s this year and five top 10’s. Edwards has never won at Richmond, but he has three top 5’s and an average finish of 15.1 at the track. His driver rating at Richmond is 86.4, which ranks 11th in the series.
