FONTANA, CA (TheSpread) – Juan Pablo Montoya won his sixth career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series pole on Friday as he earned the right to start up front for the Auto Club 400 on Sunday.

According to oddsmakers at online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com, Montoya now has 8/1 odds to win the race. Jimmie Johnson is still the favorite to win the race with 3/1 odds while other short odds to win are Carl Edwards (4/1), Denny Hamlin (4/1), and Kyle Busch (6/1).

Johnson is the defending champion of this race and he also won in 2002. Johnson has five wins in his career at this track with an average finish of 5.3 and a driver rating of 124.2, which is best of any driver. Johnson will start 16th in Sunday’s race.

Hamlin qualified second on Friday but he is off to a slow start in 2011. He currently sits 17th standings as he has just one top 10 in four races. Hamlin has one win at this track in his career with an average finish of 17.2 and a driver rating of 88.4.

Edwards qualified 18th on Friday. He has one win at Auto Club Speedway in his career with an average finish of 9.2 at the track and a driver rating of 98.7.

Kyle Busch also has one win at this track and has an average finish of 12.7 with a driver rating of 100.7, which ranks fourth amongst current drivers. Busch qualified eight for Sunday’s race.
