Gordon wins pole for Kobalt 400
LAS VEGAS, NV (TheSpread) – Jeff Gordon was already a strong contender to win the Kobalt 400 on Sunday, but he improved his chances on Friday by winning the pole for the race.
According to the latest oddsmakers, Gordon now has 13/2 odds to win Sunday’s race. Kevin Harvick remains the favorite with 5/1 odds while Jimmie Johnson has 6/1 odds. The Kobalt 400 will take place from Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday at 3:46PM ET.
Gordon is off to a slow start in his final season. He is 35th right now, 72 points out of first after wrecking in both races this year. Gordon has one win and six top 5s at Las Vegas in his career. His average finish at the track is 15.0 and his driver rating there is 103.7, which ranks second in the field.
Harvick is third in the current standings, 2 points out of first. He has two top 5s on the year. Harvick has never won at Las Vegas. His average finish there is 14.7 while his driver rating is 94.5, which ranks eighth in the series. Harvick will start 18th on Sunday.
Johnson is second in the standings, one point behind Joey Logano. Johnson has one win and two top 5s. Johnson has won four times at Vegas with an average finish of 9.2. His driver rating at the track is 113.6, which is best of any driver. Johnson will start from the ninth position in this race.
