These two actually finished tied with 2,403 points to end the 2011 season, but Stewart got the championship due to having more wins. For the 2012 season, oddsmakers see Stewart as the favorite to beat Edwards in the point standings, as he has odds of -140 to top Edwards while Edwards has a money line of -110 to best Stewart.

2011 was somewhat of a breakout season for Stewart in recent years, as he had not finished in the top 5 in the standings since 2005. In 2010, Stewart placed seventh and he was sixth in 2009, both were years under the Stewart-Haas Racing label. In 13 career Sprint Cup seasons, Stewart has placed in the top 5 of the season standings just five times. His average finish is 5.15.

Edwards tied his best finish of his career last year by placing second. He has yet to win a season championship, but has finished pretty well over most his career, earning four top-5 finishes in seven career seasons. Edwards does have two seasons where he finished outside the top 10. His average finish is 6.14.

The 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season kicks off on Sunday with the running of the Daytona 500. For complete odds on which of these two drivers will have a better finish in the season standings, see below.
