MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A person with direct knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the Minnesota Twins have agreed with right-hander Mike Pelfrey on an $11 million, two-year contract.
The deal was reached over the weekend, pending a physical, according to the person who spoke Monday on condition of anonymity because the team had yet to finalize it.
Pelfrey made $4.1 million last season in a one-year contract with the Twins. He made only three starts for the New York Mets in 2012 before an elbow injury required Tommy John ligament replacement surgery. Pelfrey recovered in time for the 2013 season, 11 months after the operation, and struggled through most of his first year in the American League.
Pelfrey finished 5-13 with a 5.19 ERA and 53 walks in 152 2-3 innings.
