BALTIMORE (AP) -Alex Rodriguez raised his major league-leading RBIs total to 156, Jorge Posada took over from Joe Torre as manager for the day and the New York Yankees prepped for the playoffs by beating the Baltimore Orioles 10-4 on Sunday.
As the wild-card Yankees made plans for their postseason opener Thursday at Cleveland, Posada and second baseman Robinson Cano did not play. Rodriguez, Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon were all lifted in the fourth inning.
Chien Ming-Wang and Andy Pettitte will start the first two games for the Yankees against C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona. If his elbow and hamstring are ready, Roger Clemens figures to start Game 3 at Yankee Stadium, with Mike Mussina likely to pitch Game 4.
Brian Burres (6-8) gave up six runs and nine hits in 3 1-3 innings.
Wilson Betemit had three RBIs, and Bobby Abreu and Jason Giambi each drove in two runs for the Yankees, who were 21-29 on May 29 before coming back to finish 94-68 - their fewest wins since 2000.
Chase Wright (2-0) got the win, pitching two innings of relief after starter Sean Henn allowed one run and one hit in three innings.
Tigers 13, White Sox 3
CHICAGO (AP) - Magglio Ordonez won his first AL batting title, getting three more hits Sunday and leading Detroit over Chicago in a season finale between two disappointing teams.
The 2006 AL champion Tigers finished 88-74, while the 2005 World Series champion White Sox went 72-90.
Ordonez raised his average three points to .363 and easily beat out Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki.
Carlos Guillen's two-run homer to right in the third was his 21st of the season and gave him 100 RBIs.
Chicago got three singles off Nate Robertson (9-13), the third one by Jermaine Dye, in the fourth to make it 3-1.
Jose Contreras (10-17) gave up nine hits and five runs in 6 1-3 innings and finished tied for the second most losses in the majors.
Indians 4, Royals 2
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Travis Hafner drove in two runs to reach 100 RBIs for the fourth straight year and playoff-bound Cleveland beat Kansas City.
The Indians, who won the AL Central, will start C.C. Sabathia in Game 1 of their division series against the New York Yankees on Thursday.
Hafner, who spent a big part of the season in a slump and hit only .228 in May and .218 in June, is batting .373 in his last 17 games with three homers and 13 RBIs.
Aaron Laffey (4-2), who is not included in the Indians' four-man playoff rotation, went five innings to get the win, giving up four hits and one run.
Hafner put Cleveland in front 2-0 with a two-run double in the third off Luke Hochevar (0-1), the top overall pick in the 2006 draft who was making his first major league start.
Twins 3, Red Sox 2
BOSTON (AP) - Torii Hunter's RBI double started a three-run first inning and Minnesota held on against the Red Sox backups.
Despite the win, the Twins (79-83) are heading home after missing the postseason for just the second time in six years. They finished with a losing record for the first time since they went 69-93 in 2000.
The Red Sox are heading for a first-round playoff matchup against the Los Angeles Angels, starting Wednesday at Fenway Park.
Matt Garza (5-7) allowed one unearned run on four hits and three walks, striking out five in five innings. Joe Nathan pitched the ninth for his 37th save.
Julian Tavarez (7-11) went three innings for Boston, allowing three runs and three hits with two walks.
Devil Rays 8, Blue Jays 5
TORONTO (AP) - Carlos Pena hit his 46th home run, Jason Hammel won for the first time in five starts and Tampa Bay finished up another dismal season.
The Devil Rays finished with a 66-96 record, leading the majors in losses for the second straight year and finishing in last place in the AL East for the ninth time in their 10 seasons. They won just three of their last 12 games.
Hammel (3-5) allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings to win for the first time since Sept. 2 at New York. He walked two and matched a season high with six strikeouts.
Burnett (10-8) lost for the first time in seven starts. He gave up seven runs and eight hits in 5 2-3 innings.
Mariners 4, Rangers 2
SEATTLE (AP) - Felix Hernandez held Texas to four hits in 8 2-3 innings as Seattle closed its up-and-down season on a high note.
Hernandez's yielded to all-star closer J.J. Putz with two outs and nobody on in the ninth. Putz earned his career-high 40th save.
Hernandez (14-7) just missed his second complete game of the season. He struck out eight, walked none and hit a batter.
Jamie Burke hit his first career home run and drove in another with a perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt. Burke's squeeze came after Adam Jones tripled off A.J. Murray (1-2).
Athletics 3, Angels 2
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Kurt Suzuki blooped a game-winning single to shallow right with one out in the ninth inning, and Oakland ended a five-game skid with a win over AL West champion Los Angeles.
Kendry Morales tied the game on a solo homer with one out in the ninth for the Angels, who will open the division series against the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday at Fenway Park.
Huston Street (5-2) blew his fifth save, allowing his first earned run in 11 September outings on Morales' fourth homer, but still earned the victory.
Mike Piazza singled off loser Chris Bootcheck (3-3) to start the inning, then was lifted for pinch-runner Shannon Stewart, who scored the winning run.
Jered Weaver gave up a run and four hits in six innings in his tuneup for the playoffs.
