CLEVELAND (AP) -Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow and is expected to have limited participation during spring training next year.
Choo played just six games for Cleveland in 2007. He was called up from Buffalo on April 23 and batted .294 (5-for-17) with five RBIs in six games before he was sent back to the Triple-A club in May. He was placed on the disabled list with elbow soreness while at Buffalo.
The reconstructive surgery was performed by Los Angeles Angels physician Lewis Yocum. Choo will begin rehabilitation on Thursday in Cleveland and should be fully ready by April, the team said.
In 45 games with the Indians in 2006, Choo hit .295 with three home runs and 22 RBIs.
