NEW YORK (AP) -Baltimore’s Jay Payton was ejected after he took a called third strike in the fifth inning of the Orioles’ game against the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.
Payton wheeled around and started arguing with plate umpire Mike Reilly as Yankees catcher Jorge Posada threw out Ramon Hernandez trying to steal second to end the inning. Reilly then ejected Payton, who threw his bat and helmet down as he stomped off toward the dugout.
It was Payton’s third ejection of the season and the ninth for Baltimore overall.
Miguel Tejada also talked to Reilly after he took a called third strike in the first inning.
Brandon Fahey replaced Payton in left field in the bottom half.
