DENVER (AP) -Colorado starter pitcher Elmer Dessens left the Rockies’ game against San Diego Friday night with one out in the third inning after straining his left hamstring on a pitch to Brian Giles.
After throwing a ball to Giles, Dessens gingerly hopped around the mound and Colorado trainer Keith Dugger came out to check on him. The Rockies quickly decided to take him out.
Mark Redman replaced Dessens with one out and a runner on first. The Rockies purchased the contract of Redman from Triple-A Colorado Springs earlier in the day.
Dessens went 2 1-3 innings, allowing no hits, two walks and one run. He also had three strikeouts.
