NEW YORK (AP) -Alex Rodriguez was limping in the New York Yankees’ clubhouse Wednesday, and the team sent him to get an MRI exam of his right ankle.
Rodriguez was injured in the seventh inning of Tuesday night’s 12-3 victory over Seattle when he slid into Adrian Beltre and the third baseman toppled onto his right leg, rolling A-Rod’s ankle. Rodriguez came out at the end of the inning, and postgame X-rays were negative.
While the ankle was more sore Wednesday, Rodriguez thought he would be available for the game.
“I don’t understand. You’ve got to talk to Dr. (Stuart) Hershon,” he said. “I thought I was ready to roll, but I’ve got to go downtown.”
Rodriguez was in workout clothes when he got ready to leave Yankee Stadium about 3 1/2 hours before the scheduled first pitch.
“I was ready to play, but they’re sending me to get an MRI,” he said.
Rodriguez leads the major leagues with 46 homers and 131 RBIs. He is batting .310.
