MILWAUKEE (AP) – Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez is day to day after he sprained his right knee making a leaping catch at the wall.
Gomez had an MRI on Friday that confirmed the sprain, and he hobbled around on crutches before Milwaukee’s game against the Reds. Manager Ron Roenicke says he’ll have a better idea in the next few days of when the All-Star will return to the lineup.
Gomez raced to the wall during the fourth inning of Thursday night’s 2-1 loss to Cincinnati and robbed Brandon Phillips of a hit. But he crashed awkwardly to the ground with his knee bent under his body and his hip hit the base of the wall.
Gomez is hitting .288 with 18 homers, 55 RBIs and 30 stolen bases in 114 games.
