ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) – Yu Darvish has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of inflammation in his right elbow.
The Texas Rangers made the announcement Wednesday night, a day before the right-hander’s scheduled start against Tampa Bay.
The move was retroactive to Sunday, a day after he allowed six runs and nine hits over four innings in a loss at Texas. The Rangers said Darvish didn’t have any issues during that game, but felt tightness when throwing on the side Monday.
Texas purchased the contract of left-hander Alex Claudio from Triple-A Round Rock.
Left-hander Robbie Ross Jr. will be recalled from Round Rock on Thursday to start in Darvish’s spot that night.
The Rangers said Darvish will undergo further tests and examination on his elbow Thursday.
