DETROIT (AP) -The Oakland Athletics optioned left-handed pitcher Dallas Braden to Triple-A Sacramento and recalled left-handed pitcher Dan Meyer on Monday.
Braden (1-7) lasted just 1 2-3 innings Sunday, allowing eight runs and seven hits in an 11-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers.
He hasn’t won since April 24 – his first major league start – and is the first Oakland pitcher to lose more than six straight in one season since Mike Mohler in 1997.
Braden became the first pitcher in the major leagues since 2004 to give up two homers to the same batter in one inning, allowing Magglio Ordonez to do it Sunday.
Meyer was 6-2 with a 3.40 ERA, ranking among Pacific Coast League leaders, in 19 starts for Triple-A Sacramento. He was acquired from Atlanta before the 2005 season as part of the Tim Hudson trade.
