ST. LOUIS (AP) -The St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres began Monday night’s game with three umpires after Marty Foster, who was struck in the facemask by a foul ball the previous night, became ill.
Foster had been scheduled to cover third base in the opener of a four-game series that began in 96-degree heat. An announcement just before game time seemed to leave open the possibility that Foster could man his post later in the game.
