CHICAGO (AP) -Chicago Cubs star left fielder Alfonso Soriano had to leave Sunday night’s game against the Mets after pulling up lame as he tried to run from first to third on a single.
The team said it was a strained right quadriceps. Soriano left the game and was replaced by Cliff Floyd.
Soriano had singled with two outs in the third for Chicago’s first hit and then tried to go to third on a single by Ryan Theriot. But between second and third Soriano pulled up, favoring his right leg, and tried to hop to third base where he was tagged out easily. He was then helped off the field.
The Mets were leading 1-0 as Tom Glavine was looking to win his 300th game.
