KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -Right-hander Leo Nunez was recalled Sunday by the Kansas City Royals from Triple-A Omaha of the Pacific Coast League and was slated to start against the Texas Rangers.
Nunez had made 48 relief appearances the past two seasons for the Royals before making his first career big league start on July 17, a no-decision at Boston. He was sent back to the minors the next day.
Right-hander Jason Shiell, brought up Thursday from Omaha, was designated for assignment. He is 1-4 with a 4.70 ERA in 17 starts and seven relief appearances in the minors this year but did not appear with the Royals.
