LOS ANGELES (AP) – Dodgers left fielder Carl Crawford has been scratched from the starting lineup after going to the hospital to check out a high temperature and a fever.
Skip Schumaker started in Crawford’s place Saturday night as Los Angeles hosted Cincinnati.
Crawford is hitting .289 with five homers and 16 RBIs in 67 games. He got three hits in Friday night’s 2-1 win over the Reds.
“He was feeling a little iffy yesterday, having some fever,” manager Don Mattingly said. “He kind of played through it.”
“He’s taken antibiotics, but his temperature ran back up, so they just ran him down” to the hospital, Mattingly said. “I was going to play him today, but he didn’t look great when I saw him. So I decided to give him a day. It’s fairly precautionary, and I think we’ll be OK with him.”
