WASHINGTON (AP) – Washington Nationals left-hander Ross Detwiler will miss at least two more starts as he deals with a lower back strain.
Manager Davey Johnson said Detwiler wasn’t able to throw a full bullpen session Saturday and that “nothing so far has worked” in the effort to treat the problem.
The Nationals anticipated that Detwiler would return from the disabled list after the All-Star break, restoring the team’s regular five-man rotation.
Instead, Taylor Jordan will remain with the club and start Tuesday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Nationals will also need a fill-in starter for Friday’s doubleheader against the New York Mets.
Detwiler is 2-7 with a 4.04 ERA. He has struggled since returning last month from a stint on the DL for a right oblique strain.
