ATLANTA (AP) -The Atlanta Braves activated ace John Smoltz from the 15-day disabled list before his start against the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.
Smoltz, making his 18th start of the season, went on the DL July 6 with shoulder inflammation.
With a 9-5 record and a 3.07 ERA, Smoltz was named to the NL All-Star team for the eighth time earlier this month, but he missed the game because of injury.
The Braves made room for Smoltz on the 25-man roster by sending reliever Joey Devine to Triple-A Richmond.
