MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Minnesota Twins left-hander Glen Perkins had a setback in his recovery from a shoulder injury, delaying his return indefinitely.
Out since May 22 with a mild muscle strain, Perkins was originally expected to miss about a month. He was on a rehabilitation assignment with Class-A Fort Myers when he left Saturday’s game with discomfort in his throwing shoulder after only one inning.
Manager Ron Gardenhire received a discouraging report Sunday morning from the medical staff, learning that Perkins aggravated the injury.
“And that’s a long ways back,” Gardenhire said.
The 24-year-old Perkins, a 2004 first-round draft pick, pitched well in long relief – with a 3.80 ERA in 23 2-3 innings before the injury.
