CHICAGO (AP) -The Baltimore Orioles purchased the contract of left-hander Garrett Olson from Triple-A Norfolk before Wednesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.
Olson, who was 7-6 with a 3.46 ERA for Norfolk, was scheduled to start against Chicago in his major league debut.
To make room for Olson on the roster, the Orioles designated reliever Scott Williamson for assignment. Williamson was 1-0 with a 4.40 ERA in 16 appearances. He wasn’t available in Tuesday night’s loss to the White Sox because of a bruised foot.
“This is definitely a crossroad in my career. I don’t understand it really,” said Williamson. “I don’t want to retire yet but we’ll see.”
The Orioles have 10 days to either trade Williamson, outright to the minors or release him.
